Jonathan has a hard time going to bed at night, so Austin - when he's not working - goes into Jonathan's room with him, gets on the bed, and they talk. The other night, they had a fun little father/son discussion.
We'd all had prayer together as a family before bed, and sometimes that spills over into their bedtime conversations. You know, it's quiet, and Austin and Jonathan are able to talk without interruption, which doesn't happen very often at our house. Anyway, their little father/son conversation was going along quite well when Austin asked him if he knew that he lived with Heavenly Father before he was born. He said he did. Then he said, "and Annah lived with Heavenly Father....and Matthew...and mommy." Austin agreed that all of our family lived with Heavenly Father before we were born. Then Jonathan looked at Austin and said, "you weren't a baby daddy." Austin smiled and informed him that Daddy really was a baby once, and then asked if he knew who Daddy's mommy was. Jonathan didn't know, so Austin told him that Ma Lew (the kid's name for Austin's mom) was daddy's mommy. Then asked him if he knew who mommy's mommy was. Jonathan said he didn't know, so Austin told him that Grandma was mommy's mommy. He paused for a moment of thought and then asked, "But who's old grandma?" Austin smiled and asked for clarification, "Do you mean Grandma Avery (who is Austin's mother's mother)?" Jonathan said, "NO, I mean the really OLD grandma...?" Austin smiled again and said, "That's grandma Avery. She is Ma Lew's mommy." To that Jonathan simply said, "Ooooohhh" and their little father/son conversation was over.
