You can't make an omelet without breaking some eggs!

I was off work yesterday - it was a holiday. Which holiday it was really doesn't matter, because as I told my mother-in-law, any day I'm paid to stay home is a Stacy holiday! Anyway, even though I was home, I worked. Majorly.

If you've been in my house lately, you know what a wreck it is. If you haven't been there, consider yourself lucky. It frequently looks like a bomb literally exploded in the center of the house and shot toys and clothes and all kinds of other stuff in every direction. Well, this weekend, it got even worse. Saturday night - or actually Sunday morning, I guess...because it was around 2:00 a.m. - I heard a horrible crash in one of the kids' rooms. And then silence. I jumped up and immediately ran to Jonathan's room, because he sometimes rolls out of bed during the night. I thought maybe he'd turned over the bedside table, or something else heavy. Of course, in the back of my mind, I considered that someone was coming into the house, but I was so focused on getting to the kids' rooms that I didn't really stop to entertain that thought for long.

I threw open Jonathan's door and looked down at the floor. Nothing there. Jonathan was peacefully sleeping in bed. So I backed out of the room quietly, and opened Annah's door. A sleeping girl I found. However, the source of the noise had indeed been in her room. For some unknown reason, the shelf in her closet decided to un-attach itself from the wall. In other words...it broke. And as it came down, along with it came every piece of clothing that was hanging up, and every game and puzzle that we have (let's say at lease a dozen of them). It was a mess. I later described the catastrophe as a leaky diaper....the stuff just kept coming out of the closet and filling the room with mess.

Now Annah's closet has always been a storage unit for boxes that we never bothered unpacking when we moved in five years ago. We made room for her clothes and stuff on top of the shelf, but there was other stuff piled in there: on the shelf, hanging up, and in boxes on the floor. I couldn't imagine where I'd even start cleaning. So I didn't. I went back to bed and left it.

However, Sunday rolled around and I had a hard time even getting into the room to get her up. I knew I couldn't wait til Monday to clean it. So I started, stopping only long enough to get ready for church and attend the meetings, then back home I went and started again. I pulled out all the boxes, clothes, and EVERYTHING in there. I threw a lot of stuff away. Austin was great, and went through all the stuff that was his, and threw most of it away too. I mean really, we haven't even seen the stuff in five years....how much use can it be to us? (But Austin is usually a pack rat about stuff, and I was really proud of him for throwing stuff out!) I got it all finished late afternoon, but I'd been bitten by the bug then. The cleaning bug.

I decided that I needed to get in our bedroom. You see, I had a corner on my side that was so full of stuff, you couldn't tell what was there. I decided though, that it could wait til Monday (yesterday). But when I DID get started, boy did I start! I began by sorting the various pieces of clothing into different piles: "dirty", "clean", and "to give away". Then the clean clothes started going into "to be folded" or "to be hung" piles. I got a trash bag out and started just tossing stuff too. I got the corner cleaned out pretty quickly, but the bed wasn't looking so hot...but it was organized chaos anyway.

Austin and I had talked earlier about doing something about the mess in the storage room; there was a table in there that I had originally put in there to do scrapbooking, but things kept getting piled on top of it, and I never did anything there. I told Austin when we were talking that I thought I'd move the table into the corner in the bedroom and scrapbook there, and free up the space in the storage room for more food. So after the bedroom corner was cleaned out, that's what I started doing. Austin was taking a nap (poor guy feels terrible - he's so sick!)

I had to take the table apart to move it...it was just too heavy, but I wanted to get it done before Austin woke up and volunteered to do it himself. Once I got it put back together in my bedroom, I started moving my scrapbooking stuff. I just piled it on the table though, because I need to go through it and throw some stuff out. So here I am with all the different piles of STUFF everywhere (remember, it's organized chaos!!!), and Austin wakes up. I'm showing him everything I've done (very proudly, I might add!), and he says something about an even bigger mess. So I, being smart like I am, said, "Well, you can't make an omelet without breaking some eggs." To which he replied, "It's not the eggs I'm worried about. It's where you're throwing the friggin' shells that concerns me!"

I just can't win. (However, I will say that in my defense, most of it was all cleaned up by bedtime last night!)

You are so funny Stacy! Good to know I'm not the only one whose house is a wreck half the time. Way to go!
